In North Carolina, we don’t just physically prepare for snow; we emotionally prepare. Is it happening? Is it a tease? Only Mother Nature knows.

It’s been over 1,000 days since central NC last saw snow. So when that Winter Weather Advisory popped up on our phones, it did what it always does—sent us scurrying to the grocery store for bread and milk. Panic mode: fully engaged.

We’re ready for the snow-pocalypse if it happens. Warm blankets? Check. Full Netflix queue? Check. The perfect ingredients for snow cream? Double check. Now all that’s left is to wait (and maybe stare longingly out the window).

New Christmas pjs are a tradition around here. This year, we were even able to find them in size ENORMOUS for Murphy.

Thanks to a recommendation from @lindsayanndetwiler, I found him some cute Santa jammies in size 4XL. Now he won`t feel left out.

New Christmas pjs are a tradition around here. This year, we were even able to find them in size ENORMOUS for Murphy.

Thanks to a recommendation from @lindsayanndetwiler, I found him some cute Santa jammies in size 4XL. Now he won't feel left out.

Do your furry loved ones get holiday pajamas, too?

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a tin (or five) of homemade cheese straws on the counter. My oldest teenager is in charge of making them, and he uses my grandfather’s recipe.

They’re sharp and crispy and just a tad spicy, and I could eat them all day long. It’s probably a good thing we only make them at Christmas.

Let me tell you a love story.

Many years ago, when Mr. Scoggins and I were fresh-faced newlyweds, we were talking about what frivolous thing we would buy if we could only buy one thing. It couldn`t be useful, like a house, or practical, like a car. Just something we wanted for the pure joy of it.

I knew my answer immediately: a 1950s bubble-gum-pink Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter.

Totally not something worth spending money on, especially when we had a mortgage to pay and three kids under the age of two (for those of you wrinkling your brows and doing math ... twins. Two of them were born at the same time.)

Fast-forward to a few years ago, on an ordinary Tuesday evening, when he shows up with this beauty. I still tear up when I think about it.

I thought he had long forgotten our conversation. But he hadn`t. Instead, he had been quietly searching for more than FIFTEEN YEARS to find her for me.

That, my friends, is how you romance a woman.
