I owe Jack Harlow an apology.

I was reading through some early reviews for THE NEXT BIG THING when I came across one that called it cringey that I`d named my main character Jack Harlow. I assumed that reviewer had an ex by that name and moved on with my life.

Then I saw another review mention it.

So I asked my kids. They laughed at me. Full-on, delighted-by-my-ignorance laughter. It turns out that Jack Harlow is a musician. A very famous musician. I did not know this, because apparently I am old and out of touch.

In my defense, I wrote this book two years ago. I turned it into my publisher a year and a half ago. I have absolutely no idea when this man became famous, but I assure you that my Jack Harlow is both very charming and entirely fictional.

So. Jack Harlow (the actual one) — you have a perfectly lovely, respectable name. Which is exactly why I gave it to my hero to begin with. THE NEXT BIG THING is not about you.

But if you`re looking for a fun romance where your hot namesake gets the girl? I`ve got you covered.

I accomplished a miracle this weekend. Mr. Scoggins and I took our three teenagers into the woods for our annual "put your cell phones away, you heathens" camping trip.

We remembered the hot dogs, hiking boots, and sleeping bags, but I forgot the most important thing. The ingredients for s`mores.

Oh, well.At least I had a hidden stash of Oreos.
