It`s National Typewriter Day, so naturally, it`s the perfect day to show off my collection.

I’ve got six typewriters along the back wall of my office, ranging from a 1910s Remington Standard that belonged to my great-grandfather to a bubblegum pink Royal Quiet De Luxe from the 1950s that still makes me swoon.

Three of them came from family, which makes them more than antiques. The two Royals on the bottom shelf belonged to my grandparents and my husband`s grandparents. As a little girl, I spent many hours making up stories and bringing them to life with the satisfying click-clack of those keys.

Some things never change.

It's National Typewriter Day, so naturally, it's the perfect day to show off my collection.

Here in North Carolina, monograms are a big deal. We`ll slap our initials on anything that sits still long enough—towels, totes, tailgate gear… you name it. So when it came time for me to do a little brand refresh, my monogram was at the top of the list.

I`ll be rolling out the new brand over the next few weeks, and I`m super excited to share it with you.

Taking the editing outside today, because it’s already 85 degrees in North Carolina, and I know that means the real heat, humidity, and mosquitos are just around the corner. Nobody likes sitting outside to edit when the air feels like buggy soup.

So today, I’m going to enjoy my coffee, my sticky notes, and my colored pens as I polish up THE NEXT BIG THING for the fantastic team at @harpethroad .

Until I get sweaty, that is. Then all bets are off.

Call it a work trip.

My husband and I snuck away to beautiful Beaufort, NC recently so I could soak up the sea breeze, scout some inspiration, and refill my creative cup. Most of my novels are set on the North Carolina coast, so naturally, I have to visit every chance I get.

When I got back home, I mentioned Beaufort to a friend, and she looked at me sideways. She thought I was pronouncing it wrong. So let’s clear this up for the non-Southerners in the back:

There’s a Beaufort in North Carolina—pronounced BOW-furt (like bow and arrow).
And there’s a Beaufort in South Carolina—pronounced BEW-furt (rhymes with “you”).

Two charming beach towns. Same spelling. Two different states. Whole different twang.
We Southerners like to keep y’all guessing.
